Resumen
The Brazilian economy is in the midst of a recession, experiencing a 3.6% GDP (gross domestic product) decrease in 2016. In order to remain in the market, companies are developing new initiatives to reduce expenses, such as better inventory control methods to lessen manufacturing costs. Currently, the company WW Varais does not have a proper inventory control practice in place or the resources for an in depth study of its manufacturing costs. The production process often suffers interruptions due to lack of raw materials, which in its turn limits production output levels. The aim of this project is to utilize an ERP (Enterprise resource planning) software to implement a PPC (Production Planning and Control) methodology, instill a standard inventory control practice and enable the evaluation of manufacturing costs. Throughout the project there is a conceptual review of pertinent information for the understanding of the project, as well as descriptions of the company in question, the used software and its implementation process; as well as the analysis of the results and conclusions. It was observed that the profit margins of the analyzed product lines were relatively low. This discovery induced suggestions for production process alterations which, by means of prioritizing the increase of said margins, called for the acceptance and implementation of the proposed solutions by the company. The utilization of the ERP software resulted in the betterment of inventory control practices, avoiding the interruption of production lines and allowing the analysis of the company’s manufacturing costs – enabling a simplified decision
making process for cost reductions matters.
