Resumen
The natural occurrence of faults in the rock formation or even those induced by
the drilling process can cause drilling fluid migration towards the formation. To control
the phenomenon of loss of fluid various techniques are used. One is the use of lost
circulation materials. In this work, a study experimentally the liquid-solid flow in the
fracturated channel and the formation of bed of particles within the fracture is
proposed. To this end, an experimental apparatus is designed, built and
instrumented at CERNN-UTFPR dependencies in order to investigate the proposed
issue. To characterize the process of bed formation within the fracture, pressure
gradient in the channel, flow rate through the channel and the bed formation (height,
length and starting position) are investigated over time. The results show the effect of
varying the Reynolds number, concentration of particles, particulate material and the
initial fluid loss flow by the fracture over the formation of particle bed. With the
analysis of the results it is sought to verify the importance of control methods in the
event of loss of fluid through fractures in the set well-formation, and the injection of
particulate matter as a possible alternative to control the problem. From the results, it
is concluded that increasing the concentration of particles, decreasing the flow
Reynolds number in the channel, increasing fluid loss flow through the fracture and
the use of particles of higher specific gravity contribute to a bed formation with
greater height and length.
