Resumen
One of the purposes of Internet of Things is to make objects perform everyday tasks with little or no human interaction in different domains. These objects are computational devices with different configurations, generally classified as embedded systems, which can operate as sensors and/or operators and which most oftenly have at least one communication module. Considering the nature of applications and threats in today’s computer networks, the use of mechanisms to increase the security of information handled by these devices is necessary in most situations, both for storage and transmissions. In order to increase security, this work investigates the impact of parameterized cryptographic algorithms with different key sizes and executed on different versions of the Arduino microcontroller, one of the most commonly used equipment for small embedded systems. The results show a comparison among boards models and key sizes, as well as different operation modes of the cryptographic algorithm. Finally, a performance evaluation is conducted to make comparisons between models with similar application purposes.
