Resumen
Jabuticabeira, a species of the Myrtaceae family is native to southern Brazil, with high content of vitamins and antioxidants, making it an attractive fruit. The seed of this species is the main means of propagation, aiming to obtain seedlings. In this context, the knowledge that the jabuticaba seeds have polyembryonyis important to know about its germinative process. Thus, the objective of this work was to verify the effectiveness of the fractionation of the seeds and their pre-soaking in water in the germination and initial vigor of the jabuticaba seedlings. Jabuticaba fruits were harvested from a private property in the municipality of Pérola do Oeste – Paraná State. The experiment was carried out in the Plant Physiology Laboratoryof UTFPR – Campus Dois Vizinhos. The fruit pulpwere removed with the use of a sieve and hydrated lime, and washed in running water until the mucilage disappeared, and then, the seeds were put to dry at room temperature for a period of 24 hours. After this period, the seeds were separated for the fractionation, using the following treatments,T1 seed remained whole; T2 – seed divided in two equal parts, by means of polar cut (longitudinal direction); T3 – seed divided in two equal parts by means of equatorial cut (transverse direction); T4 – seed divided into four equal parts by means of polar and equatorial cut; T5 – seed divided into three equal parts by means of polar cut (longitudinal direction); T6 – divided seed in three equal parts by means of the equatorial cut (cross-sectional). After this procedure, the seeds were divided into two groups, where one was immersed in water for 24 hours while the other wasn ́t soaked. After that, the seeds were sown in white boxes, containing autoclaved washed sand, and placed in BOD with a temperature of 25 ± 1 °C without light, wetting the substrate daily. The experimental design was completely randomized, in a 6x2 factorial (types of fractionation x soaking in water), with four replications, where the experimental unit was composed of 100 seeds, or part of them. The number of seeds germinated on first evaluation, and after 90 days the total number of seedlings emerged, rate of polyembryony, speed index emergence and emergence time were evaluated. The results showed that seed fractionation did not influence the germination process and initial vigor of jabuticabeira. The previous imbebição in water was favorable to obtain a higher number of seedlings and in the polyembryonic rate of jabuticabeira seeds.
