Resumen
With the current increasing demand for energy, there is a need for the development of more efficient forms of conversion between the relatively abundant heat sources into work. Several promising internal combustion engine technologies currently exist, among which the 5-stroke internal combustion engine, whose objective is to obtain greater thermal efficiencies with respect to the now ubiquitous four-stroke engines, through the extended expansion of the exhaust gases in a fifth stroke inside the engine block. 5-stroke heat engine models are relatively scarce in the literature due to the recent invention of such engine type. Finite-time heat addition (FTHA) modeling is a recent technique for Otto engines that allows for the engine’s main parameters to be accounted for while retaining the simplicity of air-standard modeling. This work proposes to apply finite-time heat addition modeling onto five-stroke heat engines.
