Resumen
This project presents a capacitor pre-charge and discharge system, based on a soft-start strategy with a step-down DC-DC converter. The system aims to mitigate the inrush current effect on a step-up converter. The inrush currents occurs when the circuit is connected to the power source and its capacitors are discharged. The system’s structure consists of a microcontroled step-down converter and a step-up converter used as a test circuit to validate the pre-charge method and test the designed pre-charge module. The step-down converter is responsible for supplying a variable voltage ramp to the test module in order to charge its capacitors slowly, avoiding the occurrence of inrush current peaks. The selected microcontroler is used to automatically vary the switching control wave’s duty cycle and also to control the step-up converter’s capacitor charging and discharging. Lastly, the pre-charge module’s impact in inrush current is analyzed and discussed.
