Resumen
This paper introduces basic concepts about prestressed concrete and it dimensioning. The objective is to provide the necessary information about one of the procedures used for the dimensioning of prestressed elements. This paper is developed in the following sequence, introduction with basics of the prestression (application and numerical example), materials applied, calculation hypotheses, methods and levels of prestressing, limited steel tensions established by ABNT NBR 6118: 2014 (Brazilian Association of Technical Standards), dimensioning script using the method of boundary states, and lastly, a complete example of dimensioning. The differential lies in the clarity with which it develops and explains the dimensioning, avoiding any doubts as the examples progress. It should also be mentioned that the design of the ultimate limit state will be done by using the table with values of K6.
