Abstract
Continuous improvement needs to be a reality for companies to remain competitive in the market and for this different management and control tools have been developed. This work presents the application of the Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) tool, in the process of assembling a product, in a machine manufacturing company for the furniture industry. For the research the timing of the assembly times was carried out, trying to identify the influence of the human factor in the variability of the times in the workstations. With the use of the FMEA, points of time lost at work were identified and improvements were applied. As a result there was a reduction in assembly time of 11.23%. The main actions taken were: remade assembly procedures that would better assist the assemblers, the assemblers went through more training to assure the assembling with quality of the product.
