Resumen
The present work aimed to propose improvement actions in order to reduce the setup time of a line of chocolate bars present in a food company in the south of Brazil through the use of techniques and concepts of the SMED tool. For this, a literature review was performed and articles regarding to the SMED tool and its techniques were analyzed through scientific database platforms (CAPES Journal, Scielo, ScienceDirect). After the literature survey, a data collection was performed in the company in two moments, observation without timing and observation with timing. In addition, analyzes of previous setups times and a questionnaire with the leader of the line was performed. With the questionnaire responses and the times of the activities performed by the operators during the setup were identified the equipment with the most critical setup times and created the database necessary for the tool application. After the application of the SMED tool, improvement actions were suggested aiming the total setup time reduction. The main actions proposed were: the standardization of activities during setup, implementation of carts with the necessary materials for each operator, the parts with quick champs, the purchase of extras parts for replacement and the parallelization in the use of equipment. The proposed actions may allow the reduction of approximately 70.58% of the line setup time, representing 25.33 hours in the month.
