Resumen
This work aims to evaluate the use of different sludge concentrations added to the mortar as a replacement to sand and resulting in the elimination of the environment passive generated by water plants. For the present study, it was made proof-bodies of mortar with dosage of sludge in the proportions of 5, 10 and 15% in replacement to the small aggregate; the trace used to prepare the mortar was in the proportion of 1:7:2 of cement, sand and lime, respectively. The sludge used at the mortar incorporation was originating from the Water Treatment Plan (WTP) from the city of Campo Mourão – state of Paraná/PR, where nowadays it is used Poly Aluminium Chloride (PAC). The study was divided into three steps, being the first one characterized by making of apparatus for solid retention; during the next step, analyses of sludge characterization were realized; and as the third, were verified mechanic compression and water absorption by the mortar. The characterization of dry sludge identified a high quantity of aluminium, approximately 79 g/kg, containing around 8% of aluminium each kilogram of sludge. Incorporation of 10% of sludge in replacement of the small aggregate at the mortar allowed a significant gain of resistance in relation to the common mortar, bearing an average strength of 2.98 MPa, besides 1% of water absorption, insignificant when compared to the white sample, confirming the high mechanic resistance. Therefore, it was concluded that according to results obtained for the concentration of 10% of sludge aggregated to the mortar, the use of sludge in mortar is satisfactory.
