dc.description.abstractThis paper presents an approach to the necessary adaptations to public company to remain working, and profitably in competitive markets, and focuses on the changes of the Brazilian Post in the last 20 years to survive in a market, besides competitive, endangered, from increased use of communication tools that do not require the exchange of correspondence. It also aims to identify the new challenges for the sector and propose solutions to enterprise maintenance, which was made after the analysis of the historical situation, present and future of ECT. The results proved to be totally feasible the permanence of public companies operating in open markets, with positive financial results, with the advantage of being government instruments for achieving social goals, such as access of isolated communities to public services through the Post Office.
