The civil construction segment is in a changing scenario due to the increase in customer demand for quality, modernity and technology; and in the field of public works, it is no different. However, construction that use government funds presents numerous problems in the bidding process related to poorly detailed projects, poorly based budget spreadsheets, uncertain planning and ineffective management. As an alternative to reduce these obstacles, the federal government published Decree No. 10,306, of April 2, 2020, which establishes the gradual implementation of Building Information Modeling (BIM) in the execution of engineering construction and services carried out by federal public agencies and entities in Brazilian territory. Faced with this scenario, this research aims to analyze the application of BIM in the construction located within a university campus, and to verify the feasibility and advantages of using BIM 4D in the planning process of the same, in order to make the bidding process more assertive. Thus, the architectural, structural, electrical and hydro-sanitary 3D modeling was performed, in addition to the preparation of the executive schedule for the construction. The objective was to verify the magnitude of conflicts generated between the three-dimensional models and to generate a 4D simulation of the project, the latter in order to detect possible incompatibilities in the proposed executive schedule. The results obtained in the interference analysis show that if the project were executed only with the information that the university has, the construction would have numerous problems related to the lack of compatibility between the disciplines. In total, 516 failures were detected related to the overlapping of elements between the models and this was due to the large number of installations required to serve the building. In relation to 4D modeling, it has not proved to be an advantageous application tool for public works, as in addition to the need for several hours of work, it requires an executive schedule with a high level of detail and requires a machine with high processing power of data; factors that end up making its application unfeasible.
