Resumen
Water is essential for the maintenance of life, however, it may be a means of transmitting diseases. In this way, this study aimed to find possible associations among the water quality for human consumption, hospitalization caused by waterborne diseases and meteorological data from 2001 to 2015, in Francisco Beltrao, Parana, Brazil. The water quality data were provided by SANEPAR, temperature, and rainfall by IAPAR. Hospitalizations were obtained through the DATASUS website. The design of the epidemiological study was characterized as ecological. For the linear correlation analysis of Pearson, with 5% significance level, simple linear regression and principal component analysis were used the Microsoft Excel software and XLSTAT and ACTION 2.0 supplements. Furthermore, It was evaluated the use and occupation of land near of water abstraction point, using satellite images from Google Earth Pro, georeferenced in ArcGIS 10.1. The correlation test, with annual averages, indicates possible relation among the variability of temperature, turbidity and apparent color with the free residual chlorine value. Moreover, the principal components analysis with annual average, also demonstrated a possible association between the free residual chlorine with turbidity and apparent color. However, the quality of water for public supply in Francisco Beltrao should not be seen as a unique factor of the cause of implication in health from those diseases. Therefore, epidemiological studies are critical, as they seek to understand the causes and distribution of diseases in populations.
