Resumen
Landscape painting is an art genre depicting the relationship between man and nature. As time went by, that gene has undergone changes in its representation, time and concept thus extending its approaches and involving several areas of knowledge and interdisciplinary subjects. The aforementioned transformations are visible in the Brazilian art production where the landscape genre tradition was introduced by European traveler artists mainly in the 19th century. In the beginning of the 21th century, Brazilian symbolic constructions changed and led to new ways of landscape representation that reviewed traditional canons. The visuals produced have hybrid characteristics and the painting is contaminated by other expressive means, such as photography, resulting in fragmented and ambiguous images through collage principles including superposition and juxtaposition. The present dissertation aims at investigating the relationship between landscape, as concept and representation, and culture and technology in the 21th century painting produced in Brazil aiming towards understanding the past construction re-elaboration processes which somehow has changed and, as a consequence, ended up producing other painting visualizations. The research focused on Brazilian works depicting landscapes between 2000 and 2019, a period with a wide diversity in art production. The selected paintings are analyzed through bibliographic and pictorial research considering Brazilian and European art history relationship, selected artist production and each work characteristics. Thus, the research points out fluid and interwoven associations between Brazilian painting and concepts about cultural process, art, technology and landscape, as symbolic and material means, to build representations in the 21th century
