Resumen
In order to understand the factors and mechanisms that motivate users to actively participate in Virtual Communities (VCs), a systematic literature review was carried out, based on articles obtained from Portal de Periódicos da CAPES, from which twenty four factors and fourteen motivating mechanisms were obtained, related to the success of this kind of community. A new VC was developed, implementing some of the motivating mechanisms found in the literature, whereby it was possible to verify which factors could have motivated certain types of participation, by means of asking open questions to the users. The obtained answers allowed to identify the most relevant motivating factors according to the VCs users. The depicted motivating factors were personal gains, learning and social interaction.
