Resumen
The aging of engineering works is increasingly discussed in the academic environment. In rockfalls, the exposure of rocky material to weathering agents may cause disintegration of the blocks and modify their mineralogical composition. One of the structures directly affected by weathering is the drains. When located at the outlet of the internal filters of earth dams, they are called standing drains, its function is, among others, to protect the drainage carpet from the intemperic actions and to direct the internal percolation water of the dam. Knowing this, the objective of this work is to map the events of superficial rock alteration in the footing drain of the Itaipu land dam (left margin). In addition, we sought to create a georeferenced database with all the information observed in the field. Therefore, it was necessary to inspect the footing drain for identification, demarcation and collection of the geographical coordinates of the change processes. After that, for the structuring of the database, a SIG tool was used, specifically ArcGIS. It were information on the presence of: moss, lichen, vegetation, water infiltration of the dam and other notable features to the naked eye. Other information was also included in the database, such as the extension of the area changed in meters, the intensity of change and any peculiarities observed in the field. Finally, photographs of each location were added for consultation in the software. The base file used in this study was made available by the Itaipu team in a format compatible with ArcGIS, containing the MDT and aerial images of the dam. From the characterization and spatialization of the rock alteration areas, it was noticed that the footing drain is in good condition, presenting point processes and little intense. Despite this, in places with the presence of infiltration water, a greater amount of areas with alteration was observed. Finally, the database will can be used to monitor the evolution of rock alteration processes in the footing drain.
