This research aims to investigate how high school biology textbooks are presented in undergraduate courses in Biological Sciences. For this, a survey was conducted through the e-Mec of the Higher Education Institutions that offer this course in a face-to-face manner in the city of Curitiba-PR. After that, the curricular matrixes of the courses were analyzed in order to obtain information about the subjects offered with the objective of knowing those that are more prone to accomplish an approach on the textbook of Biology of High School. To proceed with the research, the course coordinators were contacted to provide more detailed information regarding the research and to indicate the teachers who work in disciplines that are more favorable to a textbook approach. An online questionnaire was sent to the professors participating in the research in order to extract information about the area in which the participating professor graduated, as well as, the disciplines he teaches in the institution where he works. In addition, we sought to know what didactic materials the teacher uses in his classes and if he prefers any of them, to then know if the Biology textbook is used in his classes. Subsequently, a semi-structured interview was conducted to deepen points that were not clear only with the answers to the questionnaire. From the information obtained, it was possible to reflect on what the profile of the intellectual professional the participant of the research approaches in relation to the way in which they use the textbook as object of study. In only four teachers out of a total of seven, it was possible to detect the documental function in which the works are used to confront information, analyze their content with critical scripts and train critical teachers based on the subjects and contributions of the teacher trainers. The latter, in turn, approach the profile of the transforming intellectual professional. The information on the area of teacher training and their research interests have contributed to establish bridges in what the teacher considers important to work in the initial training course, not leaving restricted the approach on high school textbooks only in pedagogical subjects. In a simultaneous way, was elaborated an Educational Product in e-book format to be used as a support in the initial formation courses of Biological Sciences that still do not approach the high school textbook as an object of study, containing several information to be explored by teacher trainers, as well as, by future teachers.
