Resumen
This work proposes the study of a piezoelectric material attached to a metallic plate as both sensor and actuator. The piezoelectric material used is the lead zieconate titanate, known as PZT. To accomplish this study, concepts of mechanical vibrations, piezoelectricity, modal analysis and computer simulation through finite element method are needed. To accomplish the study of the behavior of the piezoelectric wafer as both sensor and actuator, the natural frequencies of the system are needed. The natural frequencies are obtained through a modal analysis using a software of finite element analisys. With the frequencies known, an experiment using a data acquisition system, accelerometers and an impact hammer is made to validate the modeling made using software. An experimental methodology was developed to analyze the sensor properties of the piezoelectric wafer, acting in a similar fashion of an accelerometer. And finally, an experimental methodology was developed to study the actuator properties of the piezoelectric wafer using it analogously as a shaker.
