Resumen
Packaging production in Brazil moves billions and shows growth predictions for the next coming years. In its development, it is aimed the protection for products against hazards of distribution and handling, attempting to guarantee its content integrity. In order to simulate transportation conditions, mechanical tests are performed and ruled by standardized organizations such as the International Safe Transit Association (ISTA), that is a global benchmark in packaging test protocols and standardization. However, despite the existence of adequate devices for the execution of tests abiding to the standards, the adaptation of procedures and nonuse of proper devices is recurrent in industrial plants in Curitiba. This happens due to the high costs of devices, besides problems and risks involving outsourcing. Thus, it is often chosen to perform a method that lacks precision, has minimum repeatability, low ergonomics and does not represent the standard accordingly, reducing the accuracy of the results. This monography presents the development of the project and prototype of a low-cost device for package drop testing according to ISTA-1A, sought to provide wide access to a larger range of organizations. By applying the methodology proposed by Pahl et. al. (1996), it is integrated the State of Art Research with Benchmarking and the Client’s Needs Assessment to – after processing the Project Requirements through the Quality Function Deployment – obtain the Product Specifications. Next, the structure and synthesis functions are defined to generate and evaluate alternatives. After the engineering designs and calculations, a prototype is built and tested to validate the proposition.
