Resumen
This study aimed to analyze how the adaptation from literary to filmic language is performed, considering as essential aspects in this process the intertextuality, dialogism and the construction of memory in Órfãos do Eldorado. The work was written by Amazonian author Milton Hatoum and adapted for cinema in 2015, under the Guilherme Coelho direction. Milton Hatoum is the author of great works of Brazilian literature, and is considered one of the greatest and most outstanding writers in the country. In addition, his work raises themes such as family conflicts, memory, culture and identity, being the target of several academicscientific studies. With that in mind, with the purpose of understanding how it is possible to bring together literary and cinematographic languages, thus establishing a dialogue between these distinct arts, this research is based mainly on the authors Hutcheon (2013), Xavier (2003), Bakhtin (1992), Kristeva (1974), Carrière (2014), Stam (2006), Bazin (2018), and Avellar (2007). In relation to the construction of memory, the theoretical assumptions of the authors Assmann (2011), Freitas (2017), Candau (2010) and Halbwachs (1990) were mainly used. For this, this study was divided into three major moments: 1st) the concepts of intermedia relations and interarts Studies were discussed, as well as intertextuality, dialogism and the main aspects of the relationship between Literature and Cinema and the theory of adaptation were presented; 2nd) the essential concepts of the memory theory were discussed, especially those of individual memory and collective memory; 3rd) it was analyzed, both in the literary and filmic scope, how intertextuality, dialogism and the construction of memory occur in Órfãos do Eldorado. In this sense, it is noteworthy that memory is the connecting thread of the narratives Órfãos do Eldorado, since through it, the main character reports important and remarkable events about his past. Therefore, it is possible to notice that there are correspondences and discrepancies in the aforementioned works. Furthermore, it was possible to find several intertextual and dialogical relations between the objects studied, both of them dialoguing with the myths of the Amazon region. Moreover, it is remarkable that, although it dialogues with Hatoum's novel, the film adaptation of Órfãos do Eldorado is an autonomous work and, for this reason, both writer Milton Hatoum and filmmaker Guilherme Coelho are of great importance for artistic and literary productions in Brazil.
