Resumen
The use of pre and post-milking management is used for the health of the udders and mammary glands and the physical-chemical quality of milk from dairy cows. This management had the intention of disinfecting the skin of the udders of these animals, before and after the milking process. It is a very important prevention due to the environmental conditions in which the animal is, which are favorable to the contamination by microorganisms that cause intramammary infections. Lactic acid has the potential to inhibit the growth of pathogenic microorganisms and has therefore been tested as an antiseptic. For this, the test of natural challenge was adopted, where the product was immersed in the udders of four cows and the iodine based sanitizer applied to four cows used as comparative. Therefore, eight lactating Jersey cows were used, with application of the products before and after milking, twice a day for three weeks. A swab collection was performed prior to milking and another after pre-milking and after milking, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, one each week, and counts of total mesophilic bacteria. The California Mastitis Test (CMT) of each animal, and the titratable acidity of the milk samples were performed. The hygiene of the animals was observed through notes (scores) attributed to the degree of dirty. Data were analyzed by frequency of responses. The effectiveness of the two tested products was confirmed, where they obtained reduction of microorganisms present in the udders of lactating cows for both pre-dipping and post-dipping.
