Resumen
Aluminum is one of the most abundant elements in the earth's crust and its use in metallurgical processes is recurrent, but it is a material that has high ductility and low hardness that makes workability difficult. Thinking about improving its mechanical characteristics using the aluminum refinement process with the addition of other materials, such as boron and titanium. Refiners act to inhibit the formation of large columnar grains, making the material structure more uniform and improving its mechanical properties. Seeking to understand the behavior of the recycled aluminum A332 alloy with the addition of refiners, it was submitted to the casting process with three different percentages of Ti-B refiners (titanium and boron) and an unrefined sample for comparison purposes. Thus, it was possible to carry out the following analyses: chemical composition of the material, metallography, SEM images and EDS analysis, a-Al phase size and microhardness. Thus, it was possible to analyze and understand how the use of Ti-B refiners affected the microstructure and microhardness of refined A332 aluminum alloys so that we could observe a granular, fine, uniform structure and a decrease in the size of the a-Al phase, which consequently leads to an improvement in the microhardness of refined samples.
