Resumen
The textile industry is among the world's most polluting industries, generating high wastewater molecules with long-term toxic and carcinogenic compounds by most conventional remediation processes. Aiming the alternative treatments that are more effective for the degradation of typically recalcitrant organic pollutants, as is the case of azo class, several researches have been carried out. In this work, the potential of using nanostructured zero valence iron (nFVZ) immobilized on chitosan spheres was evaluated for a degradation of a textile dye belonging to the azo family (reactive red 195). The characterization of the catalyst was carried out by X-ray and spectroscopy of infrared with Fourier transform while ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometry was used to evaluate the percentage of discoloration and degradation of the synthetic effluent containing the reactive red 195 dye. Assays involving application of chitosan beads, chitosan beads with nFVZ and combinations of these as hydrogen peroxide and ultraviolet radiation revealed that the combination between FVZ in polymer matrix with hydrogen peroxide was able to promote significant discoloration simultaneously the reduction of typical shoulder to aromatic compounds in the spectrum ultraviolet light, with only 30 minutes of treatment.
