Mulheres no rock: capas de discos sob a ótica de gênero

Abstract

Understanding that álbum covers design creates different meanings, wich are crossed by worldviews, including, perspectives related to gender issues. Thus, female rocker álbum covers can reinforce or/and question gender norms through the production of particular types of femininities – that is, specific ways of behave, dressing, wearing hair, to use or not to use make up, and só on. Such types of femininities shaped by álbum covers, as well as by other artifacts, are capable of questioning us, influencing our ways of being and being in the world. Thus, this research aims to analyze, from a gender perspective, female rock álbum covers – from Mainstream – released between 1990 and 2000 in order to investigate whether and how they shaped new models of femininity. It was observed that, in general, the covers analyzed for now questioned and for now reinforced gender norms, possibly in order not to transgress the rules too much and compromise the sale of products to broader markets.
