Resumen
Based on the stringent requirements and the needs of the current market, it behooves the companies to adapt in order to survive, always looking for a competitive advantage that brings them ahead the competitors. The management methods of Total Quality and Six Sigma combined with the PDCA systematization tool (or DMAIC, for more specific cases) and Ishikawa’s and Pareto’s diagrams are extremely important for the restructuration of a project or process within a company that seeks to be highly competitive in a tight global market. This work aims to align theoretically the aforementioned management tools in order to direct the focus of studies into the optimization of mechanical manufacturing processes, especially with regard to the positioning of equipment, tools and raw materials, flow of people and materials, and ergonomic factors that could affect the well-being and productivity of operators. Areas that are commonly set aside in the archaic planning methods of companies that had an excessive growth, which are only now looking forward to upgrade by restructuring processes in operation, reducing costs and bringing improvements to productivity in their lines, thus improving the welfare of the operator, the quality of their products and processes in addition to increasing its overall level of competitiveness.
