Resumen
In Brazil, the most widely used constructive system is still the masonry, built from diffrent types of materials such as brick, block, stone, among others. The buildings constructed in Curitiba for example, using conventional brickwork system, presents deficiencies, particularly from the point of view of thermal performance. These deficiencies could be minimized by replacing the masonry by a material "vernacular" more appropriate: the wood. Despite the large area of planted forests in the South and the old vernacular building tradition in wood, currently the number of houses built of wood is incipient. This study aims to compare two different construction systems with low environmental impact using wood, applied to Curitiba (Brazil) and Auckland (New Zealand). The method used for comparison of building systems was the case study, with the object of analysis two construction systems (wood frame) low environmental impact. As a result some differences were observed as the materials, construction techniques and the higher or lower level of industrialization and adaptation to local culture.
