Resumen
Academic research to develop and evaluate an improvement in the torque reduction control of a temperature protection system for a diesel engine. During a diesel engine overheating event, we have specific control dynamics that directly influence the vehicle’s drivability and safety. Based on the use feedforward control and new gain values and the beginning of the PI portion of the controller, a calibration proposal was developed. The methodology used was the comparison of two calibrations, a reference calibration with the sole purpose of protecting the hardware and the proposal of this work. To evaluate the calibrations, a test was performed under controlled conditions, where it was possible to simulate an overheating situation similar to the real application. From objective results related to the maximum values of torque reduction, speed reduction and coolant temperature, the proposed calibration presented better results than the reference calibration in most of the evaluated items.
