Resumen
Inserted in the context of the scarcity of non-renewable mineral resources, the Engineered Wood Products (EWPs) are characterized by their improved structural properties and strict quality control. Thus, the Association of Engineered Wood classifies these products into categories and inserted in one of them, are the "I-Joists" beams. Such beams in shape of an "I" are constituted by lumber flanges and web made of Oriented Strand Board (OSB). Considering the importance of the knowledge about the structural behavior of "I-Joists" beams and aiming at future Brazilian standardization, a theoretical and experimental study on the behavior of these products is necessary. The present paper propound a comparison of analytical models for forecast deflections with the experimental results realized in full size specimen “I” shaped beams. In addition, the experimental research program was conducted in order to characterize all the materials used in compliance with Brazilian and foreign standards, in the absence of national standards. Therefore, for deflection estimation in the "I-Joists", the classical method of the Principle of Virtual Works and the simplified model of Rancourt were used and both of them were satisfactory in comparison with the experimental results.
