Resumen
As the protagonism the English language in a global basis is even more evident, the need of scientists who have linguistics abilities grows so as to achieve an internationalization of learning institutions. For such, it is important that the pedagogical approach of the English language in the elementary school be conducted in a modern and relatable way for students. The following paper had as objective present the project based learning approach as a solution for modernizing making the foreign language teaching more efficient. During the process of writing this paper, a qualitative bibliographical research was conducted in which, besides theoretical studies from renowned scientists, empirical experiments were consulted. It was concluded that when such approach was used in the classroom, a bigger engagement was seen during ESL (English as a second language) classes, as well as modernizing the teaching using an active methodology. In order to apply it in a Brazilian context, all the legal documents (BNCC – the national common syllabus basis) were surveyed looking for legal and theoretical assumptions for applying such approach.
