Resumen
The technical evolution of the Brazilian road network and the suspension and steering system design features, as well as the differences between the tires available in vehicles from the 60s and 80s and the tires available in the current market, generate an obsolescence scenario regarding the performance and safety of classic vehicles in terms of vehicle dynamics. This study aims to apply mathematical models and specialized software to characterize an existing suspension and steering system, quantifying its original theoretical performance. From this, optimizations are proposed according to the influence of the parameters defined in the bibliography, with the requirement that they must be feasible for physical application in the vehicle. The designed modifications transform the behavior of the motor vehicle, reaching the targets set in benchmarking. The resulting handling behavior is deemed to be equivalent to a modern reference vehicle.
