The present study carried out an investigation on the Venezuelan cinema under the historiographic approach. The objective was to reconstruct the biography of filmmaker Edgar Anzola, whose career spanning eighty-seven years of activity, from 1894 to 1981. This research is of historical type with a documentary source design, transectional retrospective and univariate trait. In relation to the historical perspective, we have privileged the consultation and critical analysis of primary sources with the purpose of approaching the national cinematographic context. The results of the study were presented as historical indications. Finally, many peculiarities have been inferred, which place Edgar Anzola as a relevant cultural figure in the modernization of Venezuela, given his untiring participation in the introduction of cinema to the country.El presente estudio realizó una investigación sobre el cine venezolano bajo el enfoque historiográfico. El objetivo fue reconstruir la biografía del cineasta Edgar Anzola, cuya trayectoria abarca ochenta y siete años de actividad, desde 1894 hasta 1981. Esta investigación es de tipo histórica, con un diseño de fuente documental, transeccional retrospectivo y univariable de rasgo. En relación con la perspectiva histórica, se ha privilegiado la consulta y análisis crítico de fuentes primarias con la finalidad de aproximarnos al contexto cinematográfico nacional. Los resultados del estudio se presentaron como indicios históricos. Por último, se han inferido numerosas particularidades, que sitúan a Edgar Anzola como una figura cultural relevante en la modernización de Venezuela, dada su participación incansable en la introducción del cine al país.
