Resumen
Cultures and nations are losing their uniqueness to globalization forces as if they are indeed in a "global village". Convergence forces of information explosion, ease of travel and transportation, and economic imperatives bring about homogeneity, and similarity to cultures, societies and the way of life. These are the defining terms of our time. It seems that we are gradually sliding towards homogeneity. Convergence forces are creating unprecedented level of similarity among various peoples and cultures. This article elaborates on these issues, not only as the way they are but as an early signal heralding the shape of things to come. A growing number of research initiatives have undertaken to account for the subject's perspective and subjectivity in the health field. This paper discusses our research team's approach and results in studying the experience of people living with chronic illness. Our perspective is based upon the production in this relatively new field as well as health-related discussions in Latin America. The illness experience calls for an understanding of it as a subjective and existential phenomenon, entailing the phenomenological arena, immersed in the process where ill people "produce" and "reproduce" themselves. The unfolding and course of the illness as well as treatment management are some salient dimensions we evoke. Some lines of future work are presented in order to create a research agenda, highlighting its implications for existing proposals pertaining to health reform in our Latin American countries.",,,,,,,,,,"http://www.scopus.com/inward/record.url?eid=2-s2.0-0032602074&partnerID=40&md5=eeb6514a8e31b69780b9d77ba429facf http://hdl.handle.net/20.500.12104/45233",,,,,,"1",,,,"179 186",,"15",,"Scopus",,,,,,,,,,"The patient's perspective. Rats typically complete higher ratio requirements for more palatable food. This effect is well characterized by the Mathematical Principles of Reinforcement (MPR). In this experiment, either standard food pellets or amaranth grain were delivered according to PR schedules, with requirements increasing in steps of 1 (PR 1) or 3 (PR 3). Rats completed higher ratio requirements and displayed shorter pre-ratio pauses for pellets than for amaranth. Nevertheless, run-rates were similar across reinforcers. In terms of the theoretical parameters of MPR, similar values in a parameter (which indices incentive value) were obtained for amaranth and pellet reinforcers. This finding suggests that, although amaranth engenders less responding than pellets, amaranth grain is a reliable reinforcer for operant procedures. The MPR model accounted for the differences in quality of food.",,,,,,,,,"http://hdl.handle.net/20.500.12104/45174","http://www.scopus.com/inward/record.url?eid=2-s2.0-84055192699&partnerID=40&md5=d7d777bf43c62804dbdc0f4c96415bc6",,,,,,"2",,"Revista Mexicana de Analisis de la Conducta",,"71 92",,"36",,"Scopus",,,,,,"Amaranth; Food pellets; Food textures; MPR model; Progressive ratio schedules; Rats",,,,,,"The 'Huautli' alternative: Amaranth as reinforcer in operant procedures [La alternativa 'Huautli': El amaranto como reforzador en procedimientos operantes]",,"Article"
