dc.descriptionElderly patients usually suffer from various chronic-degenerative pathologies and therefore resort to the consumption of multiple drugs, including benzodiazepines. Currently there is an overconsumption of these due to the presence of insomnia. The objective is to determine the association between the presence of insomnia and the consumption of benzodiazepines in elderly patients in primary care. Observational, cross-sectional, non-experimental analytical study in patients aged 60 years or older affiliated with the Family Medicine Unit No.77 (UMF77), who agree to participate and sign informed consent. Data were obtained through a standardized survey, as well as the Sleep Disorders Questionnaire and the abbreviated Yesavage Geriatric Depression Scale to determine the variables insomnia and depression, respectively. Descriptive statistics, trend measurements and determination of associations using Fischer's exact test and X2. The population distributed in age from 60 to 95 years, average of 70.11 + 7.43. The consumption of benzodiazepines was found in almost 20% of the population and this was found to be associated with the presence of insomnia (p<0.001). We conclude that the association found between insomnia and the consumption of benzodiazepines was significant. It is necessary to create programs for early preventin.en-US
dc.descriptionLos pacientes adultos mayores suelen sufrir diversas patologías crónico-degenerativas y por ello recurren al consumo de múltiples fármacos, entre ellos las benzodiacepinas. Actualmente existe un sobreconsumo de estos debido a la presencia de insomnio.El objetivo es determinar la asociación entre la presencia de insomnio y el consumo de benzodiacepinas en pacientes adultos mayores en atención primaria.Estudio observacional, transversal, analítico no experimental en pacientes de 60 años o más afiliados a la Unidad de Medicina Familiar No.77 (UMF77), que acepten participar y firmen consentimiento informado. Se obtuvieron los datos mediante una encuesta estandarizada, así como la Sleep Disorders Questionnaire y Escala de Depresión Geriátrica de Yesavage abreviada para determinar las variables insomnio y depresión respectivamente. Estadística descriptiva, medidas de tendencia y determinación de asociaciones mediante la prueba exacta de Fischer y X2. La población distribuida en edad de 60 a 95 años, promedio de 70.11 + 7.43. El consumo de benzodiacepinas se encontró en casi el 20% de la población y este se encontró asociada a la presencia del insomnio (p<0.001). Concluimos la asociación que se encuentra entre el insomnio y el consumo de benzodiacepinas fue significativa. Es necesario la creación de programas para prevención temprana.es-ES
