In this study are carry on an approach to the education activity and the evolution in the XX century, in the case of Venezuela, in order to review the historical process from the creation of the Venezuelan Central University (UCV), its development and the rural education activities since the foundation of the Agronomy Faculty. A profile of this institution is made, the history, the different steps of the academic activities and a special reference to the last curricula designs, one beginning in the 1976 year and the other in 2009, which are ending and starting this graduate students time cycle. There are a profile of the academic and management functions, from the graduate and postgraduate teaching activities, the Agronomic School, the students and the professors, the Postgraduate Study Committee and its different courses, the Research Coordination, the Research Institutes, the Experimental Stations and Campuses and the Extension and Social Activities. In the other hand, is discussed the Library and the Scientific Bulletin, Distance Education Services, General Management, Budget and others functions. At the end, there are some data and indicators, conclusion and recommendations in order to make a Long Range Strategic Plan. Key words: Education, Rural Education, University, Agronomy, CurriculumEl presente trabajo se refiere a una visión conceptual de la educación y su evolución en la Venezuela del Siglo XX, como marco de referencia para revisar al proceso de fundación de la Universidad Central de Venezuela y su desarrollo en el devenir del acontecer nacional que motivó su desenvolvimiento y la aparición de la Educación Rural, hasta desembocar en la creación de la Facultad de Agronomía de dicha Universidad, cuyo perfil se trata de caracterizar en sus aspectos históricos y en los diversos enfoques de su Plan de Estudios, con especial referencia a los dos últimos, el promulgado en 1976, cuyos últimos graduados culminan en el año 2015, cuando egresan los primeros del aprobado el año 2009. Se hace una caracterización global de esta Institución, en sus aspectos docentes, la Escuela de Agronomía, sus estudiantes y profesores, la Comisión de Estudios para Graduados y sus programas de postgrado, la Coordinación de Investigación, los Institutos y las Estaciones Experimentales, la Coordinación de Extensión, así como de sus unidades de apoyo, tales como el Sistema de Bibliotecas, la Revista de la Facultad de Agronomía, los Museos, Centros de Desarrollo Científico, el Centro de Educación a Distancia, el Presupuesto, la Empresa Rental, los Servicios Administrativos y Generales y un conjunto de indicadores jurídicos, físicos, académicos, financieros y relacionales, que dimensionan y sintetizan la institución, para culminar con un cuerpo de conclusiones y recomendaciones que pueden servir de fundamento para la formulación de un Plan Estratégico a Largo Plazo.
