Abstract
The purpose of this research was to identify the levels of general self-esteem and by
areas (personal, academic / work, social and family), present in a sample of 234 students
of Psychology of the Central University of Venezuela, divided into gender (50% female
and 50% male) and academic cycle (46.6% basic and 53.4% applied), selected by a nonprobabilistic and intentional type sampling. For this, a non-experimental, quantitativedescriptive cross-sectional design was used and the Coopersmith Self-Esteem Inventory
(Form C for adults) was used. It was found both in the total sample and in the partial
samples, by gender and academic cycle, that the highest percentage has an average level
of self-esteem, followed by those who have a high level. Regarding the partial samples
with respect to the areas of self-esteem, the majority, again, was located between the
medium and high levels, observing significant differences only between gender and selfesteem experienced in the personal area, in favor of women. Due to the fact that the
majority of the students surveyed were between medium and high levels of self-esteem,
both in general and in areas, it is concluded that they feel satisfied with themselves,
maintain good interpersonal relationships, positive relationships with their family, they
feel valued, they feel satisfied with their work as students, so that a positive execution in
the workplace could be expected in the future. Tesis P18 - 2018
