Inteligencia emocional y su relación con el desempeño laboral del personal de salud del hospital regional docente de Trujillo-Perú 2008 – 2009

Introducción: El presente trabajo tuvo como propósito investigar si existe relación entre los componentes de la inteligencia emocional y el desempeño del personal de salud del Hospital Regional Docente de Trujillo (HRDT); para realizar las intervenciones necesarias y mejorar el rendimiento de los trabajadores así como optimizar la atención de los usuarios. Material y Métodos: Estudio de corte transversal, descriptivo correlacional. La muestra estuvo constituida por 155 trabajadores de salud del HRDT, 56 profesionales, 52 técnicos y 47 auxiliares. Se utilizó el cuestionario del inventario de Bar On (I-CE) llenado por el mismo trabajador. Los datos fueron tabulados en un programa en excel y en SPSS 17.0. Para el análisis estadístico se usó la correlación de Pearson, considerándose que existe relación significativa si la probabilidad de equivocarse es menor al 5% (p<0.05). Resultados: El 35.7 % de los profesionales de salud tienen un nivel muy desarrollado de inteligencia emocional, comparado con el 30.8% del personal técnico y con el 23.4% del personal auxiliar; el 53.6 % del personal profesional tienen inteligencia emocional adecuado, comparado con el personal técnico y el personal auxiliar, 44.2% y 44.7% respectivamente. La asociación entre la inteligencia emocional (IE) y el desempeño laboral (DL) es altamente significativa en el personal auxiliar, significativa en los profesionales de salud y no hay relación en el personal técnico de salud. Conclusiones : Hay diferencias tanto en los niveles de inteligencia emocional así como su asociación con el desempeño laboral entre los trabajadores de salud del HRDT.
