Obesidad como factor de riesgo en jóvenes con diagnóstico de acné vulgar

INTRODUCCIÓN: El acné vulgar es una enfermedad inflamatoria cutánea crónica del folículo pilosebáceo, de etiología multifactorial. Afecta al 85% de la población entre 12 y 24 años de edad. De los factores extrínsecos relacionados con el acné, la obesidad parece tener un impacto importante en diversos aspectos del acné.
OBJETIVO: Determinar si la obesidad es factor de riesgo en jóvenes con diagnóstico de acné vulgar.
MATERIAL Y MÉTODOS: Se realizó un estudio analítico, observacional de tipo casos y controles; que incluyó a 75 jóvenes con diagnóstico de acné vulgar y 225 controles atendidos en el servicio de dermatología del Hospital Regional Docente de Trujillo (HRDT), en el periodo comprendido entre Diciembre del 2013 y Mayo del 2014. Para determinar si la obesidad es factor de riesgo de acné vulgar se empleó la prueba de Chi-cuadrado y el Odds ratio (OR) con un IC del 95%.
RESULTADOS: Se determinó la obesidad en el 29.3% de los casos y en el 8.9% de los controles, habiendo resultado esta diferencia estadísticamente significativa (x2 = 19.53, p < 0.05). Y el riesgo de presentar acné vulgar es 4.3 veces mayor en jóvenes obesos en relación a los jóvenes no obesos (OR = 4.3; IC 95%, 2.16 - 8.37).
CONCLUSIÓN: La obesidad es un factor de riesgo en jóvenes con diagnóstico de acné vulgar
