In this research, the cultivation of microalgae of the Chlorella vulgaris species was carried
out in bioreactors with constant aeration on a laboratory scale, in order to determine the
influence of light intensity and the microalgal concentration on the ability to remove the
aniline blue. For the experimental stage, two microalgae concentrations were used (1.9 x 106
and 7.9 x 106
cells/mL) exposed to natural light and the light intensities of 2700, 5500 and
8700 lux, which were controlled in an incubator by 12 days. The results show that the
maximum removal of 81.70% was obtained at a light intensity of 5500 lux and for a
microalgal concentration of 7.9 x 106
cells/mL. Therefore, microalgae are a viable option in
the field of bioremediation of synthetic dyes used in the tannery industry.
