El presente estudio de investigación de tipo descriptiva correlacional realizado en el Sector “El Progreso”, distrito Pacasmayo – Perú, en los meses julio a octubre del 2007, tuvo como propósito verificar la relación existente entre las condiciones sanitarias de vivienda, las prácticas de salud en las madres, con la frecuencia de las enfermedades diarreicas agudas en menores de 5 años. El estudio incluyó al total del universo conformado por 201 familias cuyos menores de cinco años hayan presentado más de una vez episodios de enfermedad diarreica aguda, a los que aplicamos el formulario semiestructurado para la medición en frecuencias de enfermedades diarreicas agudas, escala de medición en condiciones sanitarias de vivienda y escala de medición para determinar las prácticas de salud en las madres; la prueba de confiabilidad a través del alfa de Cronbach fue de 0.92861 y 0.93690 respectivamente; la prueba de interítem-ítemtotal fue de 0.8360, para la validez. Los resultados obtenidos demostraron que el 65.7 por ciento de niños menores de 5 años presentaron mayor frecuencia de enfermedades diarreicas agudas, así como el 54.7 por ciento demostró condiciones sanitarias de viviendas inadecuadas y el 90 por ciento reconoció prácticas de salud insuficientes en las madres. Se determinó que existe relación significativa entre la frecuencia de enfermedades diarreicas agudas, con las condiciones sanitarias de la vivienda y prácticas en salud de la madre, confirmándose a través del Test Chi – cuadrado (p>0.05).
