conciencia ambiental. The implementation of an environmental education program seeks the adoption of
measures aimed at the reduction, reuse, recovery and recycling of solid waste; the rational
use of water, the care of water sources, the efficient saving of electricity and the conservation
of biodiversity. For this reason, this research aimed to apply an environmental education
program for the management of solid waste at the Lord Kelvin School of Sciences - Trujillo,
La Libertad, 2019. The sample was 251 High School students who were evaluated a pretest,
before the program and a posttest, after the program. Groups were formed with individuals
chosen at random, according to the year of study: Group 1 (First year), 50 students; Group
2 (Second year), 51 students; Group 3 (Third year), 50 students; Group 4 (Fourth year), 50
students; and Group 5 (Fifth year), 50 students. In addition, it was considered to divide the
groups into halves according to sex: 25 men and 25 women. We observed that 18 students
who in the prestest did not have environmental awareness, after completing the program they
obtained a high awareness, 20 had a low awareness and 28 a moderate awareness. While 28
students who, in the prestest, presented moderate awareness obtained a high awareness in
the posttest. Finally, 62 students who had low environmental awareness improved to high
and moderate, 17 and 45 respectively, after participating in the program. In this way, it was
verified that the implemented Environmental Education Program significantly influenced
the improvement of habits, knowledge and the total assessment of environmental awareness.
