En el presente trabajo se determino los valores de hemoglobina (Hb) y hematocrito (Hto) en niños menores de 9 años de edad del Sector Buenos Aires Sur del Distrito de Víctor Larco – Trujillo en Octubre del 2008, utilizando los métodos de cianometahemoglobina y microhematocrito. Las muestras procesadas fueron de 84 niños de ambos sexos, cuyos resultados fueron expresados según sexo y edad; encontrándose valores normales de Hb en el 32% de las muestras analizadas, y el 68% con valores disminuidos que podría deberse a una anemia de tipo nutricional; y no se encontró valores aumentados en ningún niño. Se analizó los valores de hemoglobina de acuerdo a la edad, encontrándose que el 69% de los niños, entre las edades de 3 y 4 años valores disminuidos de Hb, y el 31% de los niños con valores normales. Respecto a los valores de hematocrito, se encontraron valores normales en un 81% del total de muestras analizadas y valores disminuidos en el 19%, posiblemente como consecuencia de una variabilidad nutricional y lugar de procedencia de los menores. Asimismo, de acuerdo a la edad, se encontró un mayor porcentaje con valores bajos de Hto (61%) entre las edades de 3 a 4 años. Por lo expuesto, se concluye que de las 84 muestras analizadas de niños cuyas edades son de 3 a 4 años, se encuentran con valores de hemoglobina y hematocrito disminuidos que requieren asistencia médica para mejorar su calidad de vida.
