Dentro del proceso de elaboración de azúcar, el proceso de evaporación es el que marca la eficiencia energética en la fábrica y es en donde también al material en proceso se le reduce el volumen significativamente, la empresa Cartavio venia afrontando por mucho tiempo picos en el consumo de vapor y una baja tasa de evaporación, por lo cual se planteó la instalación de un sistema de calentamiento para mejorar este proceso. Este sistema de calentamiento que permite llevar la temperatura de jugo claro desde 95°C hasta 112°C y posteriormente la inyección al tren de evaporación trajo consigo una reducción de 12.87% y 3.33% en el aumento de color y caída de pH del jugo respecto al jarabe crudo, redujo un en 2.22% el consumo de Vapor/Caña y mejoró la tasa de evaporación global en 0.63%. Este proyecto tuvo una inversión de $ 319 000 depreciada para 10 años, calculado con una tasa de descuento de 11.9%, tomando en como base solo la recuperación del 70% del ahorro de vapor, esto representaría $ 213 896 por la venta de bagazo y arrojando un VAN y un TIR de $ 653 229.31 y 53% respectivamente, el retorno de la inversión se dará a los 26.87 meses.
