Resumen
El Oro is characterized by being a highly agricultural province, which is why it stands especially water resources, from the hydrographic units that make up its territory, such as the sub-basin of the river Casacay, the main supplier of water for human consumption and various productive activities in important cantons of the province. This resource has been eroding over time, due to the diverse anthropic activities; therefore, the present case study proposes a strategy for the sustainable management of natural resources in the sub-basin of the river Casacay that guarantees the improvement of the supply of good water quality. To understand and understand the effects of the informal development of productive practices, bibliographic sources were reviewed, and a field exploration was carried out to gather information on the current status, existing activities and the problems that arise within the territory. As a result, the activities with the greatest impact on the alteration of natural resources are agriculture, livestock and forestry extraction, which cause serious problems such as agricultural expansion in the river margin, the loss of vegetation cover in the 3 sub-basin zones and the discharge of wastewater; that have caused the loss of water flow and quality in the Casacay river. In the end, actions were proposed to counteract these impacts by improving water supply and quality for sustainable development in the sub-basin of the Casacay River.
