Abstract
According to what has been investigated and by highlighting the NEC construction regulations, this document is presented whose objective is to inform the reader of the most common failures that occur in structural systems of limited ductility, knowing that these structural systems are structural walls portantes, porticos resistant at the moment and the use of structural steel, as structures that must withstand loads so that they do not collapse before a seismic event, as happened on April 16, 2016 in the province of Manabí and Esmeraldas that caused it the country lost both material and human, which according to the investigations that were carried out resulted in some structures presenting short columns, that is, a fragile failure due to shear rather than ductile failure due to flex compression, that is, the structures must have structural elements that have ductility to absorb and dissipate the energy caused by the s Ism and ensure that they remain and do not collapse to the point of losing lives that for a civil engineer is disastrous, what happened is a clear example that it is necessary to know the different failures that occur in structural systems of limited ductility when on many occasions It is not considered what is stipulated in the Ecuadorian norms, in addition to this it is to give a solution to these structures through structural rehabilitations to be able to safeguard lives that is important.
