Resumen
The purpose of the research is to analyze the role of the Social Worker in the care of patients with HIV at Teófilo Dávila Hospital. In the research process, the documentary review, the state of the art using a mixed approach methodology, was used, through analysis of updated statistics of HIV cases in Teófilo Dávila Hospital. The comparative results show a higher percentage of HIV carriers are male, including men who have sex with men and a smaller number of women. The stigmatization of society and of the family against people with HIV leads to acts of discrimination, drastically affecting psychosocial health, including the treatment of antiretrovirals. In conclusion, HIV despite the advances of medicine has managed to persuade the effects on the health of the carriers, however the damage it causes at the psychosocial level is something that does not improve, Stigmatization is very recurrent in the daily life of these people, leading to a loss of rights, services and a poor quality of life. In context, the social worker, with the role of facilitator and mediator, participates in fulfilling the rights of people with HIV, providing case tracking, articulation, research, management among others.
