BACKGROUND: According to the WHO in 2013, states that hypertension affects one billion people worldwide (1).
In the Health Science Journal, year 2011, revealed that according to the level of self-care practice, 75% of people with stage 1 hypertension have a deficient level of regular and 99.9% with stage 2 of Poor to good (2).
OBJECTIVE: To determine the level of self-care in hypertensive people belonging to the "First My Health" Club of UNE-Totoracocha. Cuenca 2016.
METHODOLOGY: This research is a quantitative-descriptive approach, with a finite universe of 134 hypertensive patients, applying the survey technique and as a tool a modified questionnaire of the thesis "Self-care in patients with a diagnosis of Arterial Hypertension seen in the Hypertensive Club of Subcentre of Health No. 2 in Sinincay-Cuenca 2013 by Mejía Tigre Rosa and Paguay Asitimbay Narcisa. The results were tabulated in the SPSS V23 program and Microsoft Office Excel 2010.
RESULTS: The management of self-care in people of the Club is: 89.6% do not consume more than 2gr / day of salt, 74.6% do physical activity, 50.0% sleep between 5 to 7 hours, 100 % Are on pharmacological treatment, 99.3% go to medical check-up and 98.5% take their medication on a daily basis.
CONCLUSION: It was evidenced that almost all hypertensive patients of the Club adopt self-care activities that benefit their health and well-being
