Resumen
In the mid-twentieth century an accelerated process of urbanization in Latin America began that led to the formation of large cities with low population density that were characterized by the occupation of low-cost rural land in relation to urban land. The growing population that lives in the peripheries and rural areas is closely related to the city due to the need of work, education, goods and services resulting in intense daily mobilization from the rural area to the city; being the canton Cuenca a clear example of this.
In this context, the present study starts from the need to generate solutions to benefit the mobility of the rural population and to favor the accessibility to opportunities that improve their quality of life; in conditions of economic, social and environmental efficiency.
The research covers the analysis of different components concerning mobility and city growth, identified in the field of study that includes the urban and rural area of the canton. In the rural area there are five Development Nodes: Baños, Sinincay, Ricaurte, El Valle and Tarqui; in which an analysis of information related to: Transit, transportation and roads is executed.
In this study the development of objectives, guidelines and projects seek to comply with a model of sustainable mobility between urban and rural areas; oriented to complement the compact city model proposed for Cuenca.
