Resumen
Modern art thinking, which expected to last "forever" continues influencing in many ways art production today; questioning the validity of ephemeral works by its intangible nature. Ephemeral art questions the claims of eternity and originality of the modern by posing the possibility of being fleeting.
The loss of art’s limits has forced cultural institutions and collectors to transform and attach themselves to the volatile nature of today's art in order to host new artistic expressions. An ephemeral work by its very nature, raises the difficulty of its reproducibility; so artists produce devices that allow the activation of the work in any field, giving it at the same time some material stability without implying that its ephemeral status has been lost.
The democratization of information and technology has made possible that techniques such as photography and video become documents of recurring registration for ephemeral work. These documents express, on their own, aesthetic value and many times they operate independently from the original work.
One of the dilemmas posed by the ephemeral work is the difficulty of selling something intangible and/or perishable thus placing artists against a problem, simple but forceful: producing art and live from it.
