Resumen
Objective: To determine the prevalence and factors associated with the use of internet and cell phones in the students of “José Peralta” School, Chiquintad parish, Cuenca 2014.
Methodology: A quantitative descriptive observational cross-sectional study is performed, which includes a universe of 381 children of Jose Peralta School, located in the Chiquintad parish, 2014 period; with a sample of 190 students. The instrument used was a form previously validated. The results were processed using SPSS 15.00 system, evaluation version.
Results: The study found that the prevalence of the use of Internet in student’s school is 87.4% and for the cell phone is 94.2% in boys / girls participants.
Conclusions: In this study the use of internet and cell phone in children showed similar results to those of other studies in terms of Latin America. The main factors related were the age and the use of Facebook in relation to internet, and to make calls abroad in the case of cell phone.
