Background: The incidence of Hansen's disease in Ecuador is recorded (0.71 per 10,000 inhabitants - 2006) located within the global parameter elimination. The Province of El Oro still has positive cases for the disease. Objective: Determine the clinical characteristics of the disease and diagnosis of infection Hansen family establishing an epidemiological fence in the Oro Province, July 2012 - June 2013”. Methods: The study is descriptive quantitative, the place chosen is the province of El Oro in diagnosted people with Hansen's disease registered in Epidemiology Center of the Province of El Oro in the period July 2012 - June 2013 and their relatives with al least 12 years old, who live with them. The instrument used is the sampling of lymph of the ear and nasal swab used for diagnosis by Ziehl Neelsen.
Results: The 81.3% of patients with Hansen's disease have skin lesions. Spots representing 50%, 12.5% nodules, ulcers and joint injuries 9.4% each, located in the upper, lower extremities and multiple injuries mostly. It shows that 53.1% of patients with Hansen's disease have lost sensitivity, being mostly in extremities. 15.6% of patients present with deformity and 9.4% have disabilities due to the effects of the disease.
Conclusions: Clinical signs of Hansen's disease is characterized by finding the spots and nodules that are the most prevalent injuries of hansen´s disease and was found in our study a 11.9% of domestic contagion
